Cheat Meal Everyday: Le Bec Sucre

In Germany, it wasn’t uncommon to hop on the bike first thing in the morning and peddl

e down the road to the local bakery. There, you would find fresh bread, buns, pastries and sweets to pick up and bring home for “morgen essen.” This is one thing among the many that I miss about life in a small, Western European town: big box grocers don’t really compare to the more personable, small town shops. I have lived in Edmonton now for five years, and it wasn’t until recently that I even thought there was something like that here.

Jennifer at Le Bec Sucre in Morinville is probably the most interesting baker I have ever met. Previously a medic in the Canadian forces from Quebec, she has found her way to Alberta and has brought some surprisingly delicious Acadian delicacies with her. Only in her early twenties, this aspiring entrepreneur –and bada$$ correctional officer

- has an exceptionally bright future in the confectionary industry. Her cupcakes come in a multitude of mouthwatering flavours, from you traditional french vanilla, to an apple spice topped with caramel chunks. Her pies are not only please your taste buds, but are beautiful to look at! And, don't get me started on her Elsa cake! If you are looking to have yourself a sweet filled table for any special occasions this New Year, I suggest you take a look at helping out a local company and head your way to her site and place an order. You, and your guests, will be glad you did.
